The fashion industry relies on water throughout the production process for textiles and garments. It takes on average 10,000 litres of water to cultivate just one kilogram of raw cotton, the material used in a third of textiles produced globally. In 2019, NEONYT - Sustainable Fashion Fair has fully dedicated itself to the future-relevant theme of Water and we were invited to be part of a dialogue about fashion, sustainability and innovation that focused on practical solutions and actions. There, we met Agnes Friedrich, who worked for NEONYT during eight years organizing fashion shows and leading the PREPEEK area for press and influencers. Agnes is an artist, fashion and textile designer based in Berlin with a long history in the sustainable fashion movement. She is also the Art Director behind the campaign "Microplastics in Cosmetics and Cleaning Products" by Ocean Now - a collective who work with the medium of art to end the destruction of the Ocean.
In 2017, together with her partner Ivonne Dippmann, they created a textile project under the name of FriedrichDippmann and developed the first limited jumper-edition of knitwear locally produced, waste-free and made it with 100% organic cotton. It is a limited jumper-edition of knitwear locally developed and produced in partnership with the department of textile technologies TU Chemnitz and Maximo Strickmoden in Dippmanns hometown. This jumper-edition features eight different designs that combine the iconography of the famous Karl Marx's monument in Chemnitz with its handwritten title "The Kids Want Communism". We are very happy to present Agnes' work to our community in her first individual exhibition in Berlin.
